Transportation Planning

Through its role as the federally designated Metropolitan Planning Organization, the Commission is continually engaged in multimodal transportation planning, working cooperatively with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, transit operators, and county and local units of government.

Local Transportation Planning Efforts

Transportation issues represent a significant component of regional planning in all metro areas. From its creation in the early 1960s, the Commission has been engaged in multimodal transportation planning, working cooperatively with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT), transit operators, and county and local units of government in Southeastern Wisconsin.

Much of the local transportation planning efforts the Commission is involved in are conducted using VISION 2050 as a regional framework. These local efforts often serve to refine and implement elements of the plan’s recommended transportation system.
