Land Surveying Assistant

The Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission, the nationally regarded regional planning agency for the seven county greater Milwaukee area, and the designated Metropolitan Planning Organization for the five urban areas within Southeastern Wisconsin, is seeking applicants for a full-time Land Surveying Assistant.

About the Opportunity

The Commission is looking for a highly motivated individual to join our diverse team of planners, engineers and specialists focused on addressing issues that transcend the political boundaries and fiscal capabilities of individual communities. The successful candidate will assist land surveyors in the recovery, perpetuation, monumenting, and referencing of U.S. Public Land Survey System corners, high accuracy GPS services, and other related surveying activities.

Core Responsibilities

  • Carry and utilize tools and instrumentation in difficult terrain and work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Use survey equipment and instrumentation
  • Perform survey tasks as guided by land surveyors
  • Prepare maps and drawings from survey field data

Core Requirements

  • An interest in working outside
  • Ability to work within and contribute to a diverse team structure
  • Experience with written and oral communication
  • An interest in GPS technologies and CADD based software
  • An interest in GIS and remote sensing technologies
  • An interest in geospatial concepts and geodetic surveying
  • General education degree, high school diploma or associate’s degree in land surveying or related field
  • A maintained valid driver’s license

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $45,000 to $52,000 depending upon education, experience, and placement within the organizational structure. A salary exceeding this range may be considered for highly qualified applicants.
